Seesaw Exhibit Team Project
Class
Mechanical Design Methodology
Skills
Woodworking, SolidWorks, and additive manufacturing
Over the course of a semester, my team and I designed and built an adjustable seesaw exhibit for the children’s Discovery Space to demonstrate principles of static equilibrium in an interactive way. The exhibit was developed to be safe, engaging, and easy for children to use while still clearly showing how balance changes with different weights and positions. We progressed through multiple stages, including an alpha 1, alpha 2, and final prototype, making improvements at each step based on testing and feedback, all while staying within a $50 budget. Most components were constructed using woodworking techniques, with additive manufacturing used for select parts where needed. As part of the final deliverables, I created a complete CAD model of the exhibit to accurately represent the design and assembly.
